Maery Rose - Minnesota, USA

When I lived on a hobby farm with my husband, I could often be seen running through the house to grab my Canon Powershot camera and shoot the antics of our horses and dog and the other wildlife that crossed our pasture. Since a divorce and subsequent move to a small suburb in central Minnesota about a year ago, what I‘m able to photograph has changed, but not as much as you would expect. There are deer and owls in the city too. And although I miss my rural home, I am satisfying myself with my gardens and fantasies of raising chickens in the city.

I have two dogs, Java and Latte, my highly caffeinated Brew Babes, who are my favorite photo subjects, although they often appear in images as mere blurs of color. I recently purchased a Pentax K-5 DSLR, which I haul on hikes with my dogs and pretty much everywhere else I can carry it. For trips on horseback or bicycle, I carry a Nikon Coolpix in my saddlebag, which I hope to replace with an iPhone in the near future.

I have a lot to learn about the technical aspects of photography but I take photos daily as a way of improving my eye and experimenting with light and angle. I learn a lot from my mistakes and try not to grieve too much for the lost moments on camera or in life.

I work full time as an elearning designer and training specialist, but I dream of someday being able to devote my time and creativity to my writing.

I have one adult son who is gay. I only mention his sexuality as it has gifted me with a whole slew of opinions and experiences to write about. I was also adopted as an infant and found my birth family 40 years later. The story material is never ending, and I'm getting wiser by the minute, at least, that's what I'd like to believe.

It’s no fun getting older and thinking that I may not have enough time to do or say all that I want to do and say. But the perspective I have about life and about people is magically better at this age. Things are so different now and I can’t wait to see what’s next.

I look forward to contributing to Vision and Verb, and you can also follow my adventures on my blog, http://cowgirlbyproxy.blogspot.com/
